“Dear NICU Mama, You may not know it now, but one day, you will be a walking letter of hope for the NICU mom who is struggling to find it.
You will be a pillar of strength as she learns what every beep means, deciphers each acronym, and navigates moments that feel so deeply unnatural. You will become the person she looks to—the one who reminds her that hope still exists.
There comes a point in every NICU mom’s journey when sharing her story becomes a form of healing. Healing not only for herself, but also for the moms who are still in the thick of it—feeling isolated, traumatized, and wondering if they’ll ever make it to the other side.
I share my story because NICU moms before me shared theirs. Their words reminded me that it’s okay to hope. It’s okay to let the NICU feel like home. And it’s even okay to find moments of joy and laughter in the darkest of days.
The NICU journey is one few people can truly understand, and it can make you feel incredibly alone.
But today, I want every NICU mom to know this: it’s okay to hold on to hope for this day. It will come. And when it does, it is more beautiful than you could ever imagine.
One day, you’ll tell your story too. And without even realizing it, you’ll become the hope someone else has been desperately searching for.”
Love,
Meghan
