“Dear NICU Mama, You may not be the same woman you were before your NICU journey, but you are every incredible attribute of a woman, all at once.

You are courageous in taking on a journey of uncertainty.

You are comforting no matter how many lines or tubes your baby is attached to.

You are brave in advocating for your baby’s care.

You are loving in its truest form, that may not feel as expected, but is shown in the most trying times.

You are resilient as you move through this version of motherhood.

You are not the woman you used to be, for that woman has lived and grown so much in so little time. No matter what your NICU journey has entailed, the woman you are today is truly an inspiration.”

Love,
Rebecca

More of Our Journey:

“I am a postpartum nurse and after five years of caring for postpartum NICU parents, I became one myself in February of 2020. I fought through seven weeks of preterm labor to deliver my son at 32 weeks. He spent three weeks in the NICU. I struggled to live between gratitude and grief during that time and learned so much about the complex emotions my patients experience both inside and outside of their time in the NICU. My son is now a funny, happy, smart six year old who is thriving as a big brother to his one year old little sister. I am now not only a nurse and a mother, but an advocate pushing for legislative change to better support NICU families nationally and also in my home state of California.”
